My school (in Scotland) is looking to develop its Intrernational links and will be running an international week in May. The geography department, along with other departments, has been asked to establish a link and put in place an 'event' for this week.

I was wondering if there are any international geogrpahers out there who would be willing to set up a link and collaborate or swap ideas? If so get in touch.
Also has anybody else had any experience of this type of thing or have any advise? I have looked at the british council website and intend on exploring that further. Is that the best way forward?

Hi Neil, the best way forward that I have found is a scheme called eTwinning. It is funded by the EU and is set up to establish and support links between EU countries. Have a look at etwinning.net. You will need to register your school to join. The eTwinning portal is great because it gives you loads of tools to aid your partnership such as an email system, a joint webspace, a chat/forum facility and more.

Does your local council have any links you could use? You could try getting in touch with them to see what they say.

Try www,globalgateway.org.uk for ideas
THE LAST PRIMARY GEOGRAPHER FROM THE GA HAD A COMPLETE FOCUS ON THE GLOBAL DIMENSION AND SCHOOL PARTNERSHIPS. - Some really interesting articles on the benefits and potential problems.
You could also look at www.rafi.ki - - It is a site that is run by a charity which you pay a subscription for. It does seem expensive but could possibly be shared across departments. Will know more after a session with our Geography PSg group meets next week.

Does Manchester count?! After all, we are a different country :-)

Just a little Sunday night insanity!

My school - up in Shetland but still part of the same country - has a long track record of international links - much of it down to the work of one of our depute heads. Take a look at this web site for more ideas / info.

I have found thre British Council to be most helpful and well worth using. Plenty of link schools, application pretty straight forward, help freely available, and cash promptly paid. What else can I say? please email if you want any further advice (you're welcome to the application letter if it will help). Also I know of a number of high schools in Copperbelt, Zambia looking for partners if anyone is interested...

GeoNeil, some international school are collaborating on a special forum set up for students. Kids post work, comments and take part in quizzes etc. Teachers acts as administrators and help debate by posting questions and uploading interesting resources (youtube videos, images, articles etc). Forum has alot of scope for expansion and new topics/activities. Link is: http://geographyalltheway.com/geogalot/
Schools are the International School of Toulouse, American School of Tunis and the International School of Manila.
Toulouse and Tunis have collaborated on a Population wikispace (contrasting Malthus andd Boserup approaches to the population/resource debate). This was an IB activity, but they are many avenues to explore at IGCSE and KS3 level. Check out geogalot for yourself! If your school would like to join in contact Richard Allaway at
