Add - the first 46 seconds of the movie, which is all I could manage to download for some reason (I assume the problem is with my computer/internet connection) are excellent! Great choice of soundtrack! I will download it properly at school tomorrow!

Well done everybody.

I was thinking that the logo could do with being a bit more distinctive. I liked Dan's idea of an eye with a globe and tried to make the whole thing into a bit of a statement.
If people like it, then I'll finish the design - which is in an early stage: http://www.juicygeography.co.uk/pgiip

I would probably change the slogan to Val's suggestion as well.

Cheers Noel

Add - it has taken me a determined 55 minutes to download the video but worth the wait - an excellent effort. I am flattered that you chose to use some of my words! Can I add the video to the campaign website Add?

Noel, I like the logo - a very strong image! Let me have a finished copy and I will add it to the website. I would quite like some feedback on the text, the sloagan, etc so that I can get a concensus and make any amendments.

Thanks to all those that have signed up but we must have lots and lots more - numbers are important in this game. Please stand up and be counted...

I will try and add some comments that people have sent in when I have finished typing up my exam papers this evening.

LittleMiss I read and I have listened and I will amend the petition especially for you (later this evening). Sorry that you didn't get a message. There is a technical issue relating to that which I won't bore you or anyone else with but in the next day or two I might be able to change things a bit.

I promise I'll finish a logo design by tomorrow evening. Unfortunately I deleted the Photoshop file so I have to recreate the design - and Lost is on soon!

GeoDave,

is it possible to produce a brief flyer, that we could add into our everyday school mailings?

We could also add the address our email signitures?

Maybe an A4 poster as well.

I was wondering whether it is also possible to get a t-shirt done with the logo/address through an e-shop, if one of us set it up, we could set the commission at nothing, so we are just paying for the t-shirt.

Just thinking aloud.

Happy to aid, come half term.

Yes, keep the ideas flowing but remember we need something professional to say to people and to present to people as the idea (hopefully) spreads.

Dave,

I have updated the movie with new logo and saved it to 3MB so it can be viewed easily online. Feel free to use in anyway you see fit.

Time to bring this back to the top again.

Question: Do geographers really care about this issue or are they just slow to react?

There should be a deluge of people signing their name to this. We are talking about the status of Geography in the media! The professional associations are doing their bit and working hard to raise the status of geography in the curriculum. Is it asking too much that we as individual geographers make a bit of an effort and try to get the subject to be recognised in the media in a more positive way?

Get off your bums Geographers.

OK - some people are obviously getting through (another batch arrived today) but if you cannot get through via the webpage, then e-mail me with the same info at:

david.rayner@blueyonder.co.uk

I will also add a link on the webpage for those that have problems. So no excuses now. I apologise for the problems but don't really have time to re-programme the webpage until at least tomorrow.

Apologies for the delay. I've finished a selection of logos - 3 sizes including an enigmatic small design without words. Most of the logos are in .png format - some have transparent backgrounds so use those if you have a coloured background on your site. I've added a background to the web page so you can see what I mean!

Logos at: http://www.juicygeography.co.uk/pgiip

Cheers

Noel

Note to web designers - Unlike excellent FireFox, Internet Explorer doesn't yet support png transparency so include this snippet of javascript in the header of your page to force it to show the logo properly:

<!--[if lt IE 7]>
<script language="JavaScript">
function correctPNG() // correctly handle PNG transparency in Win IE 5.5 & 6.
{
var arVersion = navigator.appVersion.split("MSIE")
var version = parseFloat(arVersion[1])
if ((version >= 5.5) && (document.body.filters))
{
for(var i=0; i<document.images.length; i++)
{
var img = document.images[i]
var imgName = img.src.toUpperCase()
if (imgName.substring(imgName.length-3, imgName.length) == "PNG")
{
var imgID = (img.id) ? "id='" + img.id + "' " : ""
var imgClass = (img.className) ? "class='" + img.className + "' " : ""
var imgTitle = (img.title) ? "title='" + img.title + "' " : "title='" + img.alt + "' "
var imgStyle = "display:inline-block;" + img.style.cssText
if (img.align == "left") imgStyle = "float:left;" + imgStyle
if (img.align == "right") imgStyle = "float:right;" + imgStyle
if (img.parentElement.href) imgStyle = "cursor:hand;" + imgStyle
var strNewHTML = "<span " + imgID + imgClass + imgTitle
+ " style=\"" + "width:" + img.width + "px; height:" + img.height + "px;" + imgStyle + ";"
+ "filter:progid:DXImageTransform.Microsoft.AlphaImageLoader"
+ "(src=\'" + img.src + "\', sizingMethod='scale');\"></span>"
img.outerHTML = strNewHTML
i = i-1
}
}
}
}
window.attachEvent("onload", correctPNG);
</script>
<![endif]-->

Hi!

Sorry I have not posted. I am just ending my second day of five on Exmoor (checking out the sheep, Butlins and sea walls). You guys ROCK - this campaign is really rolling. I know that it only costs £117 to get 5,000 double sided colour postcards to be printed up by a company my wife has used.... also yellow arrows might work with this campaign somehow.

I think that the 'Happiness' project could be a useful tool to spearhead the campaign as well.

Maybe we should start posting who we are contacting outside the main addresses so that we can focus our efforts...

I have been working hard in the last hour battering off an email detailing information about the campaign to a large number of Geography contacts north of the border. I have exhorted them a) to add their names to the petition list and b) to forward the email to as many geographers as they can. If we are realistic, we are not going to get the campaign rolling without the support of the thousands of geographers who do not at present 'network' as we do. Could I therefore respectfully suggest that you do as I have done this evening and spread the word by emailing all your geographer friends, colleagues and acquaintances.

A posting on TES forum before bed, I think!
